Outriders guide: How to farm Legendary weapons and armor

Once you reach the endgame in Outriders — after you finish the campaign — you’ll need to find a variety of different Legendary items to create powerful builds. Legendary weapons and armor are rare drops, even at higher Challenge Tiers in Expeditions. But there are two guaranteed ways to get drops: Hunts and Wanted missions.

In this Outriders guide, we’ll tell you how to farm Hunts and Wanted missions for Legendary weapons, armor, and mods.

How to get Legendaries from Hunts or Wanted missions

You’ll end up in Trench Town only a few hours into your Outriders journey. This becomes the hub town for two different kinds of side quests: Hunts and Wanted missions. You’ll be going after a powerful boss enemy in both missions types. The primary difference is that Hunt missions have you facing off against beasts while Wanted missions focus on human combat.

Once you speak to the NPC responsible for either kind of quest in Outriders, a bullseye and a claw icon will appear on the map in a variety of different areas. By traveling to those areas, you can grab a poster off the wall to start a Wanted mission or inspect a rotting carcass to chase after a Hunt. There are 10 of each mission type, all in their own dedicated areas.

You’ll get a variety of gear for completing each of these missions. But if you complete all 10 Hunts or Wanted missions, you’ll get a guaranteed Legendary item. Completing all the Hunts gives you a Legendary armor piece, and all the Wanted missions give you a Legendary weapon. Collect as many of these powerful items as you can, as you’ll earn their unique mods whenever you dismantle them for crafting.

Once you’ve done all 10 of either mission, you can revisit the specific NPC, turn in the quests for your Legendary, and reset the quest line. This will let you repeat every Hunt and Wanted mission. And when you complete them all, you’ll get another Legendary.

How to get Legendaries quickly

This method of farming Legendaries is tedious but rewarding. Before you go on your journey, you need to ask yourself what you want to farm for. Are you looking for Legendary armor? Or do you want weapons? Do you want to kill two birds with one stone and try and get both at once? Doing all of these Hunts or Wanted missions takes time, and doing them both in one run takes twice as long as only doing one — 20 missions versus only 10.

Once you’ve decided if you’re farming for armor, weapons, or both, go to the bar in Trench Town — it’s just called Bar on the map and it has a “saloon” sign out front.

Talk to Noah Dembele behind the bar if you want to replay the Hunts, or Ujio in the back room if you want to replay Wanted missions. When you speak to them, look for an option that finishes with a parenthetical that says “Reset Quest.” Once you’ve reset the Hunts or the Wanted missions, it’s time to head out into the field.

As you scroll across the map you’ll see 10 different areas with either a Hunt or Wanted icon. You’ll need to visit each of these places and replay the mission. But to make things easier, set your World Tier to 01. Depending on how powerful you are, you should one-shot almost every enemy you come across at this level. You’ll spend more time traveling to these missions than actually trying to complete them.

We’ve done this method several times to get Legendaries, but one thing we’re not sure of is when the game locks in your loot level — the higher the World Tier, the better the loot you’ll get. Just to be safe, we always crank the World Tier up to our max on the final Hunt or Wanted mission. You want your Legendary to drop as high as possible. If you intend to use it instead of dismantling it for the mod, you’ll need to upgrade it a lot if it drops at World Tier 01, and leveling up Legendaries can be expensive.

Once you’ve raised your World Tier up to your max and complete the final Hunt or Wanted mission, head back to the bar in Trench Town and talk to your mission types’ NPC. You’ll need to turn in all the quests, which requires a lot of buttoning through menus. Once you finish, you’ll get 10 Epic armor pieces or weapons and one Legendary.

You can do this over and over again to keep trying to get the gear pieces you want.

What about Expeditions?

Even at Challenge Tier 12 you only have a 10% chance at a Legendary

When you play through Expeditions in Outriders, you’ll get loot based on two different factors: your Challenge Tier and the medal you earn. You can get a lot of Legendaries from Expeditions, but it’s random and not guaranteed. Even if you get gold — the highest medal, meaning you went as fast as possible — on the highest Challenge Tier, 15, you still only have a 25% chance to get a Legendary.

25% is pretty good, especially considering some runs only take 12 minutes or less. And it’s worth noting that doing Expeditions will get you other items like Drop Pod Resources and more relevant loot to your level. Grinding the highest possible Expedition is the most efficient use of your time but it’s not the best way to get Legendaries.

If you’re trying to get perfectly rolled gear, Drop Pod Resources, and Legendaries, stick with Expeditions. But if you just need to increase the Legendaries you own to progress, use the Hunt and Wanted method above.
